AT OUR HOUSE!
I went to a thrift down the street a few days ago, to see if I could find our youngest son a pair of tennis shoes without a big expense, since his were too small, and he’ll outgrow them so quickly, and I did for $1! Can’t ask for a better price than that!
BUT I also found a big older model electric skillet with ventable lid…bigger than my biggest cast iron skillet for $3! It’s one of the items I said I’d like to have to use for what we know refer to in our home as “alternative cooking”, which means for us cooking without using the propane! We’ve been trying to save money in this area (and others) since the price of gas and hence propane is not getting cheaper anytime soon!
It is completely aluminum I think, which we stopped using a few years ago and went to cast iron or stainless cookware because of the possible health risks of aluminum, BUT I can cook on the “stove top” again so to say and not have to use our propane stove, so we just cook in it, hope for the best, and pray twice over the food to nourish us and not hurt us.
Jack and I have learned to make frugality and thrifty living like a game..it’s more fun that way! Rather than thinking of it as a “must do” burden, it’s something we feel we should do regardless, even when times are not so lean, so that we can do more for others during times when things are more abundant. I like what the Duggar family says…buy used and save the difference!
So now we make lists of things we need as far as housewares, price them at the cheapest “new” price we can find, then see how cheap we can get it for at the thrift store. I’m still looking for an electric griddle someone had to have then decided they didn’t want.
One man’s junk is another man’s (or in this case woman’s) treasure!
