A Not So Average Christian Family - Living, Loving, And Learning Together
Feb 21

We spent this weekend in a motel while my husband was redoing our living room floor and yep I gained 2lbs! I’m up to 240 as of this morning, but you know that’s OK! It’s not 267 where I started so I’m still down 27lbs! I know where I went wrong. Too much fast food carbs and not enough veggies and fruit. :-) I also missed the gym this morning because I slept through my alarm. Tomorrow is a new day though and I’ll be back at it like a crazy woman. LOL I hope everyone reading who is also on this journey is doing well!

And boy is it ever a workout!!!! On Monday I figured out the special controls on the treadmill! I had been using it manually by just hitting the start button and then adjusting my speed and incline as I saw fit, but it didn’t seem that I could stay on very long doing that, and it was SO boring, so that is why I went to just walking around the inside track, which was also becoming a bore.

So I hit the “weight management” button on the treadmill to see what it did. It asked me to enter my weight and my age, and it gave me a minimum and max heart rate. Then it asked me what was the fastest speed I wanted to go, so I entered 3.5, that’s about all I can do right now. Then it asked me to enter either a time goal or a distance goal, so I chose a time goal of 30 minutes, hit start, and off I went!! It automatically adjusted the incline and speed according to my heart rate. I can officially say I sweat like a pig on the treadmill!!

It was a hard workout, but very refreshing!!! (did I say that???) For me it was easier to watch those numbers and such adjust, and when things were getting tough I could see that my heart rate was almost at peak level and I knew I’d get a break in a few moments! It was easier to keep going! (with a few prayers of Dear Lord, don’t let me die at the gym!) Well, He heard me and I’m still alive and I’ll be back at it again tomorrow!!

I enjoy my 15 minutes or so of quiet time on my way home from the gym each day! Today I took the time to thank the Lord for the strength He gave me to get through my workout and for the changes I’ve seen both inside and out so far! I also thanked Him for another day with my family!

Have you thanked the Lord today for the blessings in your life?? May I encourage you to do so right where you are?! The Lord loves our prayers of Thanksgiving and praise!

I’m NOT superhuman.
I was feeling pretty icky today (woman things you know), but I made it into the gym to workout, only to come home and have 2 oatmeal cream pies for breakfast, ramen noodles for lunch, 6 Hershey’s kisses for a snack, and all the Gatorade I can stand! So see there you have it, totally human.

I am having a healthy dinner though of steamed veggies and chicken, and a small portion of long grain brown rice.

For days like this I LOVE this scripture!
Thank you Jesus for your Word!

Lamentations 3:22-24
It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
Tomorrow is a new day!

I think January went pretty well, but February has been SLOW!!! LOL I had been slacking some with my walking, but due to a walking challenge with some friends I’m back on track! The competitor in me can’t let them “win”. Honestly though, it’s not about winning, it’s about MOVING!!!! Get that heart rate up and sweat some! I met another nice lady at the gym. She’s in her 60’s and runs on the treadmill (I didn’t know one could DO that). I jokingly asked her this morning, “so how far did you go this morning?” THREE MILES (emphasis mine) she said!!

Then I began to say I could never RUN 3 miles! That makes me tired just thinking about it. She told me that she didn’t start running until she was in her 50’s. She had walked, but she’s not very tall and said walking was boring to her because she couldn’t go very far in the amount of time she had to exercise each day because of her very short stride.
She started running just 30 seconds the first time and said she thought she would surely die! She then added just 10 seconds every few days and by 5 months into it, she was up to a mile. So with her testimony I’m here to encourage you!

If you can only walk 30 seconds, that is better than not walking at all!

If you can only walk in place in the middle of your living room for 30 seconds, that is better than nothing at all!

If you can only walk for FIVE seconds, it’s better than nothing at all.

If you physically can’t get up out of your chair, while sitting just move your legs and swing your arms! Any “motion” that the body isn’t used to will get the heart pumping and the harder the heart works, the BETTER it works!

Just getting started is the hard part! The length of time and distance you can go will fall into place at your own pace once you get moving!

So may I just encourage you….stand up where you are RIGHT NOW, and walk or march in place and just do what you can for your health! The heart is a muscle, so let’s give it a workout!

February 12th tune in here for the “official” weigh in and measurement stats, and I’ll also be adding a new photo of myself for this month. As I told myself from the beginning I’m not going to reverse what I’ve done to my body overnight, so it’s easy to get discouraged, but I know I am doing so much more than I was before, it’s just got to be healthy, and so much more than appearance, overall health is important!
